CAIRO (AP) — Iranian authorities arrested one of the country’s most famous actresses Saturday on charges of spreading lies about the nationwide protests sweeping the country, state media said.

The announcement is the latest in a string of celebrity arrests, including footballers, actors and influencers, in response to their public voices of support for anti-government demonstrations, now in its third month

It said several other Iranian celebrities were also “summoned by the judiciary for posting provocative content”. It did not say the number or provide further details.
The 38-year-old actress said in her post: “His name is Mohsen Shekari. Every international organization that witnesses this bloodshed and does not act is a disgrace to humanity.”

In November, authorities arrested two other prominent Iranian actresses, Hegameh Ghaziani and Katayoun Riahi, for their social media support for protesters. Iranian footballer Voria Ghafouri was also arrested last month for “insulting the national football team and anti-government propaganda”. All three have been released.
