Doncic, Mavs blow big lead, hang on to beat Clippers 103-101

DALLAS (AP) Luka Doncic scored 35 points, Dorian Finney-Smith added 21 and the Dallas Mavericks held on for a 103-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers when they blew a 25-point lead on Tuesday night.

Reggie Bullock broke out of the lineup with four pointers in the fourth quarter, including two in a row, to give Dallas a 99-93 lead with less than two minutes remaining.

With the Mavericks leading by one in the final 30 seconds, Doncic caught an errant pass that was deflected out of bounds and soon shot the clock when he beat a deep 3 on the wing near the left side.

Paul George scored 23 points, playing the entire half for LA to try to keep the rally going for the second night in Texas’ back-to-back wins in Houston.

Nicholas Batum scored the first 21 of his 22 points, all on 3-pointers without making a mistake, then made a foul-scoring 3-pointer on a three-pointer attempt in the final seconds.

Batum made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second, the rebound going out of bounds. Dallas is included after a timeout and exits with the last 3.2 seconds.

The Mavericks led by 25 late in the first quarter, but the lead was down to two late in the third quarter and with about eight minutes left in the final half.

Bos finished with 13 points, and Dinwiddie Spencer had 16. Marcus Morris Sr. scored 18 for the Clippers.


Clippers: Kawhi Leonard, who made a double-game trip to Texas, is out again for management of a knee injury. He did not play the third game of the season. … LA’s 15-point first quarter tied its lowest of any quarter this season.

Mavericks: C JaVale McGee was out because of a neck strain. … F Maxi Kleber went to the locker room after straining his back in the second half, but returned before the end of the first half.

Clippers: Detroit visits Thursday. LA has won six in a row in the series and is 20-4 since 2009-10, when the Clippers’ 13-game losing streak ended against the Pistons.

Mavericks: Houston visits for the second night of a back-to-back Wednesday night. The Rockets swept Dallas last season, winning four games by an average of 16.5 points.
