Chevron workers stand on a hill near a gas plant in Bangladesh.
As Chevron Bangladesh celebrates its 25th anniversary, we take a look at how our role as a natural gas supplier has contributed to the country’s economic development.
return of wealth
Bangladesh’s economy has gone from nascent to booming. Energy has played a key role in helping the country’s incredible transformation, with government officials citing natural gas as the economic driving force.
Bangladesh is now one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
how did it start
By signing a bilateral production sharing agreement in 1995, we worked with the government to ensure energy security.
When Muhammad Imrul Kabir joined Chevron in 2000, he struggled to keep his food refrigerated and at home due to unreliable power supplies. Today, his house has air conditioning and other modern facilities.
“The beauty of my life today is because of Chevron,” said Kabir, business director of Chevron Bangladesh. “It’s great to think about the progress we’ve made.”
how is it going
Currently, Chevron Bangladesh is the country’s largest natural gas and natural gas producer. We produce 60% of the country’s natural gas and more than 80% of its gas condensate.
We support Bangladeshi farmers through an initiative to help them improve and increase their income.
beyond the field
We not only help Bangladesh prosper in our field of work; Our efforts also reach the community, where we support economic development, education and health care activities. Through our funding and support we have:
-
Helped farming families living near Chevron-operated gas stations to diversify and increase their income.
-
Support local youth by providing technical training.
-
Providing affordable and quality healthcare to those living near the Bibiyana gas station.
We supported a 10-day mission in 2019 to treat 70 patients living near Chevron’s Jalalabad gas plant. They received free life-changing reconstructive surgery to correct cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.
Chevron operates three gas stations across Bangladesh: Bibiyana, Jalalabad and Moulavi Bazar. They operate under a production sharing agreement with the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Petrobangla.
