Cruz Gamboa, former head of General Electric’s decarbonization strategy and partnerships in the Americas, will lead the company’s financial and commercial efforts.
Craig Spreadbury, previously chief operating officer of Four Corners Petroleum, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the carbon capture and sequestration site.
ARVADA, Colo., January 24, 2023–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Carbon America, a fully integrated carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) developer, welcomed two senior executives with four decades of industry experience as the company expands operations and develops new projects across the United States. In December, Cruz Gamboa was named chief commercial and financial officer, while Craig Spreadbury took over as chief operating officer.
“We are very pleased to welcome Cruz and Craig to Carbon America at this important time of growth for us,” said Brent Lewis, CEO of Carbon America. “These two industry veterans bring valuable knowledge and experience to helping our customers responsibly decarbonize energy and industrial emissions to accelerate their net-zero goals.”
Gamboa has more than 20 years of experience in senior positions at General Electric in corporate finance, debt and capital markets and sales. He provides deep expertise in the creation, structuring and execution of complex project financing transactions in the power generation sector.
Prior to joining Carbon America, Gamboa was a decarbonization leader in the Americas at GE’s Vernova Gas Power division, where he deployed GE’s carbon capture technologies with customers and partners. At Carbon America, Gamboa is responsible for leading Carbon America’s project initiation and development activities, developing strategic alliances and comprehensive commercial solutions across the CCS value chain, from capture to transportation to storage. He will also lead Carbon America’s capital formation and structured project financing activities.
“Carbon capture and sequestration opportunities are expanding rapidly, and Carbon America is uniquely positioned to lead this space,” Gamboa said. “I’m excited about Carbon America’s commitment to responsible CCS development with the planet and communities in mind. We’re a dedicated team with deep expertise in all aspects of project development, and that’s why we work on solutions that maximize environmental and financial benefits.”.
Spreadbury’s 22 years in the oil and gas industry include experience in operations, midstream, reservoir engineering and finance. Most recently, he was Chief Operating Officer of Four Corners Petroleum for 10 years, where he managed 65,000 acres of leases, 300 million cubic feet per day of CO.2 refinery and 250 miles of pipeline in the Texas Permian Basin. At Carbon America, Spreadbury will be responsible for the safe construction, operation and regulatory compliance of carbon capture, pipeline transport and geological CO.2 storage facilities.
“I look forward to applying my engineering and underground experience to CO operations2 equipment and pipelines to help Carbon America’s customers efficiently and safely decarbonize their industrial processes,” said Spreadbery.
In 2022, Carbon America announced its first contracts to finance, build, own and operate carbon capture and sequestration systems. The projects, which include ethanol plants in Sterling and Yuma, Colorado, and Bridgeport, Nebraska, are expected to come on stream in 2023.
