If Camila Cabello hadn’t been such a mentor, Fifth Harmony might never have existed.
Former girl group members and current sound The 25-year-old coach revealed to Access that she auditioned for a singing competition before giving up X factor An attempt in 2012.
Although she made it through a round of talks with producers after singing Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” Cabello ultimately left sound Chasing something other than stars: One Direction.

“I don’t even know if I can tell the rest of the story,” she shared. “I did succeed in the producer rounds, not the TV rounds. I never auditioned for the coach.
“Then I thought, I really want to meet One Direction, and I know they’ll do it for X factor. So I was like, ‘I’m just going to take a risk instead of doing sound and auditions X factor.’ And then I ended up with One Direction,” Cabello added.

As she was well aware at the time, One Direction also began in 2010 on the UK edition of the series, with the then 63-year-old Cowell joining Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Neil El Horan and Liam Payne have built a superteam of contestants. In Cabello’s eyes, rolling with Cowell means meeting her idol.
“It was a pretty crazy move,” she said of her decision to leave sound, before her eventual return as coach this season. “It was like a magnet and I was destined to come back.”

While members of Fifth Harmony now have their own solo careers, Cowell explained this month, X factor A comeback isn’t entirely out of the question.
“I think about 24 hours ago, I just made a decision that – actually thinking to myself – if I had a choice, I would do it here,” he told into hollywoodScott Evans. “I swear to God.”
Cowell said he was recalling “how much fun” he had with Cabello and the rest of the cast – which also included Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Allie Brook and Dinah Jane – and that the U.S. Versions are always worth revisiting.

former American idol judge created the UK and US versions of X factor, which ended in 2013 after three seasons. Both shows have successfully launched the careers of groups such as One Direction, Fifth Harmony and Little Mix.
“Because I love working with groups and there aren’t that many of them at the moment, we found some great groups on that show,” Cowell added. “Like, yeah, I’m going to do it for this reason.”
