Arsenal have had a new £70m bid for Moises Caicedo rejected from Brighton.
Brighton’s status remains unchanged and the midfielder is not for sale in January, with the transfer window closing on Tuesday at 11pm. Sky Sports News reported that their position would not change.
If Arsenal’s latest offers for the 21-year-old had been accepted, the transfer would have been done at the club, surpassing the £60 mark Cuquerella signed for Chelsea in the summer.
The Gunners also rejected their initial £60m bid for Caicedo, prompting the Colombia international to plead with Brighton to leave and join the leaders in a statement on social media.
Caicedo, who said in an official statement at Brighton that he would only focus on the current club last week, was told to stay away from training with the divers until Tuesday’s transfer deadline after his Instagram post.
Leandro Trossard has already struck Brighton Arsenal in a £27m deal in the current window.
De Zerbi: Brighton ready to go without Caicedo.
Brighton head coach Robert De Zerbi wants Caicedo to stay at Brighton until the end of the season, but says the club will “progress without him”.
“Caicedo is a very good guy and I can understand him,” said De Zerbi, after Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round win over Liverpool.
“When you are 21 and you get the demand of a big team, they play in a European competition, I can understand.”
Asked if he was surprised by Caicedoni’s social media presence, De Zerbi added: Yes, I was. I’m not sure if it was, if you know what I mean…
Asked if he thought Caicedo had been moved by others, De Zerbi said: “I think so.”
What do Caicedo’s Instagram posts say?
Caicedo’s Instagram post read: “I am grateful to Lord Bloom and Brighton for giving me the opportunity to finish the Premier League and I feel that I have always done my best for them. He always plays with a smile and heart.
“I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo, Ecuador. My dream has always been to be the most decorated player in Ecuadorian history.
“I am proud to be able to bring in a transfer fee for Brighton that would allow them to reintegrate and help the club continue to be successful.
“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take this magnificent opportunity.”
Earlier this week, Caicedo told a Brighton official that he was only focusing on the current club.
Trossard has already swapped Brighton for Arsenal in the current window in a £20m deal, but Brighton have decided to keep Caicedon.
