Aaron Carter, singer, dead at 34

Aaron Carter, the younger brother of former child pop star and backstreet boy Nick Carter, has died, a source close to the family told CNN. He is 34 years old.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told CNN they responded to a distress call at Carter’s home in Lancaster, California, at about 11 a.m. local time Saturday, where a deceased person was found.

He was found dead in the bathtub, sources said.

Authorities have provided no information on the possible cause of death.

Carter rose to fame as a child with pop hits like “I Want Candy” and “Crush on You,” and his 11-month-old son, Prince, survived.

The singer’s debut studio album, “Aaron Carter,” was released in 1997, following his opening performance as the Backstreet Boys earlier that year. His fifth and final studio album, Love, was released in 2018.

Carter is also known for his roles on Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire” and TV shows such as “7th Heaven,” which premiered on the WB Television Network. He also appeared on his family’s E reality series! Entertainment Television, “The Carter House.”

The singer gained a lot of love and support from fans and other celebrities in 2017 after coming out as bisexual.

“What I’m trying to say is that I feel important to myself and who I am, and it’s been on my chest for nearly half my life,” Carter tweeted. “It doesn’t make me feel Shame, just trying to get rid of the weight and burden I’ve been holding on for so long.”

He then explained that around the age of 13, he “started to find boys and girls attractive”.

“It’s been years and I’ve been thinking about it, but it wasn’t until I was 17, after a couple of relationships with girls, that I became interested in a guy, and I became interested in him. Working together, growing up together Big.”

The singer opened up on “The Doctor” in 2019 on his struggle with multiple mental health issues, including multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety disorder and manic-depressive disorder.

“It’s my reality,” Carter said in a clip on the show’s Facebook page, holding up a plastic bag containing multiple prescription bottles.

Carter was arrested in Georgia in 2017 on suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession while traveling in Habersham County with his then-girlfriend Madison Parker.

The singer later said in an interview that he doesn’t drink alcohol and denied having a drug problem, CNN previously reported.

“I don’t need help,” he said. “I need to make people understand that I am human and that I will make mistakes like everyone else in this world, but I will never risk my life or my girlfriend’s life.”
